The Executive Board of the United Republicans of Iran
His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations
Date: August 18, 2012
We welcome your participation at the non-aligned-countries summit in Tehran due 30th of August 2012. We consider this event as an auspicious forum at which solutions for today’s global problems may be formulated.
We for our part would like to contribute in this venture by respectfully bringing to your attention that with the Islamic Republic of Iran you will be approaching a government that is constantly violating human rights and democratic principles.
For many years now, the Islamic Republic of Iran has oppressed, imprisoned, tortured and killed numerous political opponents, human rights activists, journalists, lawyers, women rights activists and followers of some religious minorities (Baha’i and Islamic Mystics).
In the aftermath of the fraudulent presidential election of June 2009, a new wave of oppression was started against the then legal presidential candidates, Mr. Mousavi and Mr. Karroubi and their supporters. The peaceful demonstrations of the citizens asking for their high jacked votes by chanting the slogan “where is my vote”, were dealt with extensive use of force. The protesting citizens have been beaten violently and with an extreme degree of brutality. Many have been imprisoned, tortured or killed under in-human conditions.
Three years after that incident, hundreds of the imprisoned citizens including the presidential candidates Mr. Mousavi and his spouse Mrs. Rahnavard as well as Mr. Karroubi along with high officials of the former government of president Khatami are still being kept in jail.
Your Excellency, we respectfully urge you to consider their fate when you are in Teheran and in contact with your Iranian counterparts; please ask for the whereabouts of these prisoners of conscience.
Wishing the best for you and for a successful summit.
On Behalf of the Executive Board of the United Republicans of Iran
